America is falling apart.
People like to say that we as a
people are advancing, progressing ever so fast intellectually, and
technologically… but I have to disagree. All of these advancements are great,
but we as a people are losing our morality. Our ethical standards are going
downhill. America
has forgotten God and His word - where we get our basic common laws from.
Sadly, we as a country have removed the Ten Commandments from the courtroom and
public schools. What the children would read, had they been left up: “Thou
shall not kill…Thou shall not lie.” If they read this, it will not likely cause
a psychiatric problems, but rather these youth may rationalize their standards
to the point where such Commands forbidding lying, stealing, and adultery are
ignored.
In today’s world, law students at Stanford University have debated weather monkeys have
the right to consent, and even if they have a right to trial and
representation. We live in a nation where in New York a woman won the right to run
topless because it is sexist to say that men can jog topless but for women it
is considered indecent exposure. Do I even need to say that is ridiculous?! Not
to mention that in Boston,
federal court is trying to decide if a felon in prison for life has the
constitutional right to get a sex change, by using our tax dollars to pay for
it. Again: I do not see our culture progressing!
To the contrary, is digressing
rapidly. It is not so much about progress; rather it is how we progress. Also,
ethics is being lost in the processes. Hillary Clinton said that when President
Bush vetoed the embryonic stem cell bill - which would provide federal dollars
for embryonic stem cell research - it showed how he places ideology over
science. This view is disturbing, to put it mildly. Science should never be
held more important than our morals! Atroshice things have been done in the
name of science. Take the holocaust, for example. Ethics should be placed
before science; Hillary is just plain wrong! If we do not have high moral
standards then what is there to say what is going to far.
Ideology shapes choices, regardless
of what Sen. Clinton says. It should always be this way. Sadly, America as a
nation has lost its firm hold on these ideals, which used to be solid. At the
very least, we have forgotten the true way - God’s Way. Now our crumbling morals
are a grave problem. “Why?” one may ask. Just look at society: we have
decisions on issues like global warming (which takes more consideration for the
earth rather than the effect on poor people around the globe who lack indoor
pluming, refrigerators, hospitals, and ambulances). The average person on the street
does not know that the third world will not be able to advance if global
warming activist get their way. And that means poor living conditions and more
death and all this is done in the name of save the earth. Other decisions
involve gay marriage, euthanasia, abortion, and so on. For example, people who
say that marriage is between 1 man and 1woman are considered radical even
though it has been defined that way for centuries, and euthanasia has become a
common occurrence in Europe w/ out the consent
of the family or the patient. With our
ethical standards rapidly declining, our society will fall into a quagmire of
sin.
The solution I propose: Christians
should stand and be the salt and light of the world, as Jesus Himself called us
to be. We as believers need to do all that we can to stand against the evil in
this world. As the Body of Christ, we must be the ones to stand for what is
right - if others follow, great, but don't worry when others oppose us.
Remember, we are to be in the world but not of it - we are to stand and be firm
for we are Christ’s representatives on earth.
The key is to stand for what is right, regardless of what persecution comes -
and it will doubtless come! We ought not to forget that America will
not change without a spiritual awakening. This is only possible if the churches
across America
are revived beforehand. A lukewarm church is not going to bring about much
change. In fact, it will likely conform to the world more than it will change
it. However, that - my friends - is a subject for a later time.
